As the holidays approach, it can be hard as a business owner to completely unplug without guilt.
However, if you don’t unplug you might feel guilty missing time with your family and friends or miss being fully present. Isn’t more freedom one of the perks you were looking for as an entrepreneur?
You can unplug without guilt at Christmas though! While you can say you should be able to without anything in place for “business emergencies” it can be tough.
We like to go to New York the week before Christmas and then take at least the 23rd to the 26th off. This is time for the family, going on mini adventures and just relaxing. These few days off help us refocus and get down to business when we come back to work too! Don’t be afraid to unplug! The world will not end. If you’re scared though – we have 3 tips to unplugging without guilt this year!
3 Ways to Unplug Without Guilt at Christmas
1. Set Up An Automated Response on Your Email – Let people know when you’ll return to the office. This helps establish your professionalism and know when they can expect a reply. They will also see how you honor your priorities.
2. Do a Cover Photo on Facebook – Since Facebook messenger is so huge in many of our online businesses, you may see the notifications of new messages over the holidays. Put up a cover photo letting people know you’re away for the holidays. Then as the description copy your auto-responder there to let people know when you’ll be back to your messages and social media.
And please, oh please…..
Turn off your notifications!
Go into your phone’s settings and turn off Facebook, email, and any other app that is constantly going off. Seeing those notifications can distract you from being present in your families lives. Turn it off just for a few days without guilt.
