Before you even create your blog, you should set yourself up for success. While there are lots of blogs out there, only you can share your own voice and experience with others. These 7 steps set you up for success even before launching your blog!

7 things to consider before launching your blog

7 Things to Consider Before Launching Your Blog

These steps will help you identify your unique value you offer others.

1. Pick a Niche

Some people will call this your “niche.”

With so much online, the more specific we can be, the more you’ll connect with your readers.

For example, someone blogging about nutrition might get lost in the crowd of healthy living bloggers. They would do better focusing on a smaller segment like women interested in clean eating or the Whole 30.

Your niche may be a specific topic or a specific set of people you want to help.

This specific blog is based on a certain set of people: creative, entrepreneurial women wanting to learn how to grow their incomes online.

Action Step Before Launching Your Blog:

What do people ask you about? What do you like to talk about? Who do you want to help?

2. Identify Your Voice

Among your friends, are you the teacher, cheerleader, or the leader?

Your personality will often come across on your blog, and it’s best to work with your strengths.

If you love to teach, make something you love simple for people to do. Cheerleader or Leader? Share your view on topics and encourage others in the areas you’re passionate about.

Action Step Before Launching Your Blog:

Ask 3 people who know you well to describe you. How will this effect your writing?

3. Focus On Your Goals

This may be how often you plan on posting, what you want someone to learn from you or even a monetary goal.

If your goal is accountability, you might set a goal to blog 5 times a week.

On the other hand, someone wanting to teach might only blog 1 long post per week. If you have a monetary goal – be thinking what do I offer that someone would pay to know?

Action Step Before Launching Your Blog:

List out your goals

4. Figure Out What Your Audience Needs

Start asking people in your ideal audience, what they struggle with or love to talk about. The more you can relate and help them – the more likely they’ll keep coming back. Knowing your audience will also set your apart from your competitors.

Action Step Before Launching Your Blog:

List 5 things your audience should know or wants to know

5. Decide How Much Time You’ll Commit

When someone says I make a 6-figure income online, I know my curiosity is peaked.

The thing is – they’ve probably worked long hours, grown in their skill and remained dedicated to their craft to hit that goal.

So we have to do the same thing.

Action Step Before Launching Your Blog:

Decide how much time will you devote to your blog each week (posts, promoting, commenting)?

How much time will you give it to grow?

6. Create a Plan

Buy a paper planner and start using it!

I love the Passion Planner because it has a place for me to write content ideas on each day of the month, a place to break down my daily schedule, and a monthly reflection.

7. Set a Start Date

There is only one right answer, and it’s right now! Stop putting it off. It probably won’t be perfect when you start, but the good thing about blogging is not a ton of people will see it when you start. As you grow into blogging, your audience will grow and you’ll be looking awesome. Remember done is better than perfect!
