These 3 pieces will take less than 30 minutes to set up! They will help you with being seen on Google later on. On top of that, as we get into making money blogging you’ll need the analytics set up to show them how much traffic your site generates per day.
The 3 Google tools you’ll need are Analytics, Webmaster Tools and a Sitemap for your blog.
First, you’ll create a free Google Analytics account.
Google Analytics is the main way brands will ask you to share about your website’s traffic. It also offers you the ability to discover some of your readers’ behaviors.
You definitely don’t have to master all of the reports yet. Honestly, you may never feel the need to learn it. However, you will want to set it up because brands and advertising companies will usually request your stats. The blogging industry relies on Google Analytics.
The account is free. Once you’ve signed up – you’ll receive a tracking code to insert on your website. It’s as easy as copy and paste. You can place it in a widget (WordPress dashboard > Appearance > Widget) or if you’re using a StudioPress theme, you can install the plugin Genesis Simple Hooks and paste the code into the “Genesis_After” section on your site. Just copy, paste and save!
Second is setting up an account on Google Webmaster Tools.
This is setting the foundation for search engine optimization (SEO). By signing up your site, it may help you rank in search engines for keywords.
The third step is creating your sitemap.
You’ll want to add your sitemap to your Google Webmaster Account so you may be doing steps 1 and 2 together. The easiest and most likely best way to create a sitemap is to make sure you have installed the Yoast SEO plugin. Once you have it, you’ll be able to go to the SEO section on your WordPress Dashboard and enabled the sitemap. Then you can add it to your Webmaster tools. It will look something like kimandkalee.com/sitemap_index.xml
Those 3 things will set you up well for the traffic and monetization lessons coming up in the Start a Blog Series.
