I put off getting a Mobile WordPress Theme for months. I thought it was silly and a pain to update. I didn’t realize how important it was to include a Mobile-friendly theme until my blog started to slip down on Google!
What is a Mobile WordPress Theme?
A Mobile-Friendly theme allows tablet and phone users to easily see your blog. They are also called Mobile Responsive themes because they respond and adapt to the device being used. The special theme makes it really easy for your reader to view your content.
In contract, you’ve probably been to a site on your phone and had to zoom in or out. Non-responsive themes can be frustrating. Now as more and more people are straying away from a traditional desktop or laptop it’s becoming essential that sites keep with the change and make their themes friendly to mobile users.
Why Does Google Care?
The search-engine giant wants to provide the best, convenient, and up-to-date information to its users. Mobile WordPress Themes are going to pop up first because they are convenient no matter what device you are on because it automatically resizes depending on how you are viewing the information (computer, laptop, tablet or phone).
Mobile-Friendly themes also are newer to the scene so sites with them are probably more up-to-date which Google likes.
How do I get a Mobile WordPress Theme?
WordPress does have a couple already for free. To find them you would login to your website then go to Appearance > Themes > then type in Mobile Responsive.
I personally use and love StudioPress. They have several highly-customizable themes that are also mobile responsive. Their customer service is also really great. If you choose a StudioPress theme, you’ll be able to download the theme you choose then under Appearance > Themes you’ll be able to upload the Zip file. That simple!
Sometimes when you download the theme, you will have to click “condense” if it isn’t in a zip file already, but it’s just an extra click.
