Pinterest is a great opportunity to grow your online business.
We started using Pinterest for our online business about a year ago, and now it is our 2nd biggest traffic generator behind Google!
We have not paid for this traffic either, and the people that are coming to the site are already interested in the pin – making it easier for us to relate and connect with them on our site.
It can start boosting your website’s traffic consistently as well because even older pins are getting re-pinned and appearing to be new in the newsfeed all the time. This means one blog post with a killer pin can lead to leads and sales everyday.

#1 Every Re-Pin is Showing Your Content to New People
Pinterest is set up based around Re-pinning images. A staggering 80% of pins on Pinterest are actually re-pins! You can like and comment on pins, but the majority of people will re-pin pins and visit sites they find on Pinterest.
When someone re-pins your content’s pins – it’s being seen not only by them but all of their followers. If it’s re-pinned enough, you can even end up on the popular newsfeed to be seen and re-pinned by thousands of new people.
Plus – your pin is linked to your website, so every re-pin is a chance to get your ideal client to your website even while you sleep.
Another tip to getting re-pins is to create a new image to use for an older blog post. You can upload it straight to Pinterest, and then link to your older blog post for even more traffic!
#2 Pinterest is the new search engine.
The power of images are being used everywhere. We see them on all of the social media channels, and now people are even changing how they search for things.
If someone is searching for an address to a new restaurant, they may use Google. However, if they are searching for a healthy, Paleo recipe for Chow Mein they are more and more likely to use Pinterest.
It also makes it easy for people to find what they want and immediately see if it looks appealing to them. The user can search by keywords, category, or even what’s popular on the site right now.
That means – if you’re using words you think others will be searching for – even if you only have 15 people following you now, hundreds of people can find you when they search that word!
#3 People on Pinterest are more likely to have the time and money to commit.
Each social media channel has a different audience using it. Twitter is full of teenagers, Facebook is those teenagers’ parents and people in their late 20s, and Pinterest is mostly women with a higher disposable income than average.
The other unique piece is that those women can search either by certain words or categories to narrow down their interests even more. That means – your ideal client will be searching for you perfectly crafted content for them without even knowing it.
To get to the bottom of it – your leads from Pinterest will be a higher quality than those on other social media sites.
#4 It’s easy to Pin your Content!
You can share your content by clicking the + at the bottom right. All you do is click, add a picture or even your website’s URL, and it’s up for the world to find.
#5 Your Pins Live Forever
Every season, I tailor at least one post to the holidays or parties going on. A simple post like rounding up your favorite Football Tailgating Recipes can get 100s and 1000s of re-pins and clicks each day in the fall! Once the reader is to your site, they’ll be able to learn more about you and visit other pieces on your site.
Each year, you’ll have new people coming to your site even though you wrote that one post years ago. No extra work and new leads coming in.
Those are just 5 reasons we use Pinterest for our online business. It’s amazing how many sales and team members have found our business with it without even having to advertise.
