Whether you’re hosting a holiday party or love our idea of a family movie night on Christmas eve — this Hot Chocolate Charcuterie Board is absolutely gorgeous! I’m obsessed with this new trend of creating a hot cocoa bar for the holidays or Christmas morning. There are so many fun ideas popping up on social media! After all, it’s such an easy and fun way to up your hot chocolate game! Plus all you need is a large platter, sweet treats, and a cup of hot cocoa to create your own hot chocolate creations!
What is a Hot Chocolate Charcuterie Board?
A hot chocolate charcuterie board is an arrangement of marshmallows, candies, toppings, and treats on a platter or board. traditional charcuterie boards include an assortment of meats and cheeses, but this is a fun new spin on dessert!
Why We Love It
It’s time to do away with the gingerbread houses that take forever to make and then just fall apart! We love that this dessert bar is super easy to make, and it’s something kids will enjoy putting together too!
This board was also WAY easier than designing a traditional board of breads, typical meats, and cheeses! I don’t know why exactly – maybe because the marshmallows take up a lot of room – but it was super fun and easy to create!
It also is so much fun creating an over-the-top drink combo and seeing whose drink is the fanciest!
Like a traditional charcuterie board, you’ll want to use a lot of variety in flavor, size, and color! The more you can add to your platter within your color palate the better!
We kept out colors pretty basic to keep this pretty and easy! We focused on red, white, chocolate brown, and tan.
We piled on the whipped cream, fluffy marshmallows, candy canes, chocolate stars, coconut, and chocolate peppermint bark for our Christmas themed charcuterie board!
What We Used:
- Hot Cocoa Mix
- Assorted Marshmallows
- Chocolate Stars and Chocolate Chips
- Ghiradelli Chocolate Peppermint Bark
- Candy Canes and crushed peppermint
- Shredded Coconut
- Teddy Grahams
- Whipped Cream or Cool Whip
We placed all of our items on a Christmas dish, but you could also use a platter or even a large cutting board.
Our Sugar Cookies with Peppermint Buttercream Frosting would also be great to add!

How to Make a Hot Chocolate Charcuterie Board
- Choose your board. If you don’t have one already, you could also use a Christmas plate like we did or even a pretty cutting board.
- Next fill up your small bowls with the smaller items. We used the bowls to give the board structure and variety while also keeping small items from scattering all over the place.
- Now, place larger items like candy canes or pretzels around the bowls. This will continue to give the board some structure and flow. In this step pay attention to the colors you’re putting close together. We like to have a mixture of colors throughout the board.
- Finish with the smaller pieces. Fill in the in the small remaining empty spaces with smaller items like marshmallows or Hershey Kisses!
Note: It can be helpful to use a slow-cooker hot chocolate recipe so you have hot cocoa ready all night long! This is especially helpful for parties!
We also make a Buddy the Elf Hot Cocoa Board for a Christmas movie night!
Ways to Customize Your Hot Chocolate Charcuterie Board
The board is really customizable! You pick your favorite treats and arrange them on the board or plate until it looks pretty! So there is a ton of room for creativity!
A couple ideas would be:
- Swap out your spoons for candy canes, cookie straws, or cinnamon sticks!
- Add in cookies to dunk into your hot chocolate!
- Consider adding little bottles of RumChata or peppermint schnapps for adult-only parties!
So what are you waiting for? With the cold weather and snow, it’s the perfect time to fill up your mug with cocoa and pile on the marshmallows!
