Do you put sprinkles on before or after baking brownies?
You’ll want to bake your brownies and then wait for them to cool before icing them or adding sprinkles. Once your brownies are cooked, you can pop them in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to help them cool faster. Then you can top with icing and/or sprinkles.
What is the Best Boxed Brownie Mix?
We really like the Ghirardelli Brownie Mix! We used the extra fudge variety for this specific batch, but you can use any boxed brownie mix!
7 Hacks to Make Make Box Brownies Better
While we love homemade brownies, sometimes we’re short on time and just want something easy! There are a few ways to make boxed brownies taste better (even like homemade!) without a whole lot of time or money!
- Add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the brownie batter
- Add 1/2 cup of chopped nuts
- Add 1/2 to 3/4 cups chocolate Chips, candy, or cookies to the batter
- Use 1/2 cup melted unsalted butter instead of the recommended oil for a richer chocolate flavor
- Use 1/3 cup buttermilk or whole milk instead of water
- Add in 1/4 cup cocoa powder for a more chocolate-y brownie
- Bake the brownies on a lower temperature for a longer period of time. We like 325 degrees for about 40 minutes in a glass 8×8 inch pan.
How to Cut Brownies Cleanly
Since these birthday brownies have white icing, it’s important to know how to cut them cleanly. You’ll want to let the brownies completely cool then top with icing and sprinkles. After you’ve topped with sprinkles, you’re ready to take a 8″ chef knife out to cut them. After each cut, wipe your knife completely clean. Repeat until all of the brownies are cut.
How to Make Birthday Brownies with White Vanilla Frosting and Sprinkles
- Bake your brownies according to the box — adding in any of the brownie hacks above.
- Let the brownies cool for 30 minutes (preferably in the refrigerator).
- Top the brownies with icing and sprinkles. We like to press the sprinkles in a bit to keep them from falling off.
- Enjoy!
