The one where Rachel makes a trifle for Thanksgiving is absolutely hilarious and so relatable!! We recreated her traditional English trifle, but we swapped out the beef sautƩed with peas and onions for chocolate frosted flakes and kiwis so this recipe tastes delicious (and not like feet!)
If you’re not familiar with the Friends Thanksgiving episode, Rachel is trying to make the perfect Thanksgiving dessert, but unfortunately, she ends up making half of an English trifle and half a Shepard’s pie because the magazine’s pages gets stuck together. Ross and Joey want to leave dinner early to meet some “hot girls,” so they just eat the weird combination.
Here’s a hilarious clip of the whole incident:
What was in Rachel’s trifle?
Rachel’s “traditional” English trifle had a layer of ladyfingers, a layer of jam, custard (which she made from scratch), raspberries, more ladyfingers, beef sautĆ©ed with peas and onions, a little more custard, sliced banana and whipped cream. It was a combination of an English trifle and Shepard’s pie.
What episode is Rachel’s trifle?
The one with Rachel’s trifle is actually called The One Where Ross Got High (Season 6, Episode 9). All of the Thanksgiving episodes are amazing, but this one is clearly the best!
What does Ross say Rachel’s trifle tastes like?
When Ross tastes Rachel’s English trifle (mixed with Shepherd’s pie), he says, “It tastes like feet!” Then, Joey says, he likes it!!
As Joey would say : āWhatās not to like? Custard? GOOD! Jam? GOOD! Meat? GOOOOOOD!ā
Does trifle have meat?
Nope! We had to look it up, but an English trifle is made with homemade lemon curd and whipped cream. The meat custard combination happened after the “Friends” writers were debating about the difference between a trifle and a tripe (an edible part of a cow’s stomach). One writer said, “We were like, ‘Doesn’t a trifle have meat in it? ‘ We’re like, ‘No, it’s got pudding in it.” Thus, the magical dessert scene was created.
