(Get 10% off with the code KIMANDKALEE – shop here).
If you’re looking for a protein bar that fits your macros and doesn’t taste chalky or hard as a rock — you’re going to love the new Built Bars! The newest formulation are still low-carb (4-6g net carbs), high in protein, gluten free, made with no preservatives, and no artificial color or flavors! They also taste better than ever!
Kalee & I decided to try out all 18 new flavors when they came out earlier this year!
We started with a mixed box of 18 flavors and split those between us to give it a try. OH. MY. WORD. Are we hooked!?! YEP!!

What’s the texture like?
The old texture was almost like a soft taffy, but the new texture is fluffy, marshmallow-like. We’re in love with it! The outside is a wonderful thin coating of dark chocolate. Unlike some protein bars, these are not like eating chocolate covered cardboard or have that weird aftertaste. These, for us, are like eating a candy treat.
Are Built Bars healthy?
Built Bars are offer an exceptional nutritional profile — low sugar, low carb, 17 to 19 grams of protein, and 130 to 180 calories per piece. With that said, they shouldn’t be your main source of nutrition. We like them as a snack.

Built Bar Flavors in 2020
We’ve broken down each bar by it’s calories and Weight Watchers points.
130 Calories / 4 Net Carbs (3 Blue, 3 Purple, 3 Green WW Smart Points)
Each of these flavors are 130 calories, 2.5 g fat, 2.5 g saturated fat, 18 g carbohydrates, 4 g sugar, 18 g protein, 6 g fiber, 40 mg sodium, 4 net carbs.
1. Raspberry
The fruit flavors benefited the most from the reformulation earlier this year! This flavor was like eating a raspberry truffle — so yummy! The only thing is it kind of left an after taste.
2. Salted Caramel
We love salted caramel desserts so this was one of the first we tried! It’s heavy on the chocolate in our opinion, but others have told us the ratio was perfect! So just know it’s a little more chocolate than caramel.
3. Double Chocolate
This was a let-down. We weren’t crazy about the flavor of the middle chocolate, and it also was so rich that you really needed something to drink immediately with it.
4. Mint Brownie
The mint brownie was always a favorite of ours, but it’s only gotten better! It’s refreshing, sweet, and like a guilt-free thin mint!
5. Orange
My first bite was of orange chocolate creme. See, I love these orange chocolate covered jellies my aunt gets me in Gatlinburg, TN, and I thought we’d see about this Built Bar orange chocolate creme. How would it compare? Well, let’s just say YUM!!!
6. Caramel Brownie
This bar and the Salted Caramel are almost interchangeable to us. Out of the two, we prefer the salted caramel though.
7. Cookies N Cream
Cookies N Cream was our favorite over all! It’s like eating an Oreo ball or drinking a cookies and cream milk shake. This flavor is SO good!
8. Cherry Barcia
We couldn’t stomach the original Cherry Builtbar. It was horrible!! This one was surprisingly so much better! If you love chocolate covered cherries around Christmas, you’ll love this flavor now!
9. Coconut
Coconut is our 2nd favorite flavor. It’s like eating a macro-friendly Mounds bar!!
160 Calories / 4-6 Net Carbs (4 Blue, 4 Purple, 4 Green WW Smart Points)
Each of these flavors are 160 calories, 5.0 g fat, 2.0 g saturated fat, 19 g carbohydrates, 4 g sugar, 18 g protein, 6 g fiber, 50 mg sodium, 4-6 net carbs
10. Lemon Almond Cheesecake (4 Net Carbs)
We’re still not a huge lemon fan in our bars. This bar was mostly lemon too. Neither of us tasted the almond or cheesecake.
11. Toffee Almond (4 Net Carbs)
This one we didn’t love or hate. It was just okay. It didn’t really taste like toffee and was just kind of bland.
12. Carrot Cake with Walnuts (5 Net Carbs)
If you go into this bar not expecting it to taste like cake, it’s really good. However, it didn’t hit the spot like the Cookies N Cream did.
13. Apple Almond Crisp (5 Net Carbs)
If this flavor was in white chocolate, we’d like it better. It was just kind of weird with the apple and chocolate. Not bad; just weird.
14. Banana Bread (6 Net Carbs)
The banana flavor didn’t taste super artificial, but again – not one of our favorites.
180 Calories (5 Blue, 5 Purple, 5 Green WW Smart Points)
Each of these flavors are 180 calories, 7.0 g fat, 3.5 g saturated fat, 19 g carbohydrates, 5 g sugar, 19 g protein, 7 g fiber, 55 mg sodium, 4-6 net carbs
15. Coconut Almond (4 Net Carbs)
This bar and the other coconut one are very similar, but they are both so good! We could just live off the coconut varieties!
16. German Chocolate Cake (4 Net Carbs)
This tasted more like German chocolate cake than the carrot one did! We loved the little nuts in it! It is a rich flavor which we found satisfying, but if you don’t like rich foods – it may not be your favorite.
17. Peanut Butter Brownie (6 Net Carbs)
This was another favorite! It’s like a brownie with a dollop of peanut butter in it!
18. Peanut Butter (6 Net Carbs)
We wanted this to be like a Reese’s, but it wasn’t. It’s mostly chocolate in flavor.
Limited Release Flavors
Built bar will do limited released flavors often, but the bad thing is — they get gone fast! So if you find one you love, stock up! We are still missing our white chocolate cookies and cream bars!
- Cookie Dough – 150 Calories, 15g Protein (Delicious!!!)
- Maple Pecan – 160 calories, 5 g fat, 2 g saturated fat, 19 g carbohydrates, 5 g sugar, 19 g protein, 7 g fiber, 50 mg sodium, 4 net carbs
- Candy Cane Brownie– 150 calories, 2.5 g fat, 2 g saturated fat, 21 g carbohydrates, 7 g sugar, 19 g protein, 6 g fiber, 45 mg sodium, 7 net carbs
- White Chocolate Cookies n Cream – sadly, it’s gone! It was so good!

Will Built Bars help you lose weight?
They aren’t marketed that way. They are a great tasty treat and good way to get in a great source of protein. So while they aren’t for weight loss necessarily, we would say that having this as your sweet treat vs a King Size Snickers, will help you reach your weight loss goals.
Comparing Built to Other Brands
We compared Builtbar to Cliff, Quest, Pure, and Luna bars. While Quest and Pure have more protein, we really prefer the texture and taste of Built. It’s also worth noting Built Bar had the lowest net carbs and calories as well. While some Built Bars have 180 calories, that’s as high as they go right now and those flavors tend to have higher protein as well.
What are the bars made of?
As I mentioned above, they contain whey protein isolate instead of casein or lactose. Whey is a more expensive protein, but it is tolerated better by those who have issues with dairy. The whey protein is a complete protein which gives you those amino acids and is highly digestible.
In addition to the whey protein isolate, the bars also contain:
- Fiber: Maltodexrin
- Sweeteners: Erythritol, Glycerin, Chocolate
- Gelatin
- Natural Sweeteners & no food coloring
Built Bar has no artificial preservatives. You can check out more about each on their nutritional page.

Right now you can only buy Built Bars on their website. With that said, they offer some really great discounts and sampler boxes to pick from! Plus, you earn gift certificates on each order. It’s usually not much, but it’s still nice to have towards your next order.
